HMB is a product of metabolism generated through the amino acid leucine

HMB plays a significant role in "protecting" muscles from excessive damage, it may also aid in the growth and repair of muscle tissue during non-workout days

HMB Supplementing helps to:

* Minimize damage to muscle cells
* Maintain the body in an anabolic state
* Improve body composition

HMB can be used along with a nutrition product or regular food. HMB occurs naturally in various foods such as grapefruit and catfish. Certain plants such as alfalfa have relatively large concentrations of HMB. Grapefruit and catfish contain relatively high concentrations of this nutrient. However, it is extremely difficult to consume enough of these foods on a regular basis to provide the full benefits of HMB and its much more practical to use a pure HMB supplement dietary

Regular, intense weight training exercise should be followed by those who are using HMB for stimulating gains in muscle size and strength. By reducing protein breakdown, HMB when combined with a proper training program, may make for an increase in muscle mass and strength. Researchers suggested that HMB may enhance the effects of modest exercise on the body composition of older adults
